Chase Claypool’s inaugural season with the Buffalo Bills has come to an abrupt end before it really got started.
On Tuesday, the Bills announced that they have placed Claypool on season-ending injured reserve. Although Claypool had been recovering from a toe injury sustained last month, the team did not confirm if this injury was the reason for his season-ending designation.

Claypool, who was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft, had a stellar rookie year with 62 receptions for 873 yards and 9 touchdowns. His performance continued to impress in his second season with 59 catches for 860 yards and 2 touchdowns, but his career has since declined.
The Steelers traded Claypool to the Chicago Bears during the 2022 season, an event he seemed to find surprising based on his comments prior to the trade. His impact with the Bears was minimal, and he was subsequently traded to the Miami Dolphins during the last season, where he made 4 catches in 9 games.
The prospect of seeing the 26-year-old Claypool play alongside Josh Allen in Buffalo was exciting, but it appears we may never witness that combination on the field.
