Just In: Reporter Names Favorites to Sign Yankees’ Top Free Agent

Juan Soto will be a highly sought-after free agent after the season, and one team is currently favored to sign him, according to a report.

In a column published Thursday by Jon Heyman of The New York Post, Heyman assessed the likelihood of various teams signing Soto. He named the Yankees as the leading contenders, giving them even money odds. The Mets were listed next with 5-1 odds, followed by the Dodgers at 15-1.

Juan Soto expected by some to get $500 million in free agency

Heyman believes it will likely come down to a two-team competition between the Yankees and Mets, with the Yankees holding a slight advantage.

The Yankees traded five players to the Padres last December to acquire Soto and Trent Grisham. Despite the high cost, Soto has excelled in his season with New York, batting .307 with 24 doubles, 34 home runs, and a 1.052 OPS, while leading the league with 102 walks.

Soto has done nearly everything to make the Yankees want to retain him. The key factor now is whether the financial terms will be right for the 25-year-old, who previously turned down a substantial offer from the Nationals.
