The Baltimore Orioles can’t afford another injury to a starting pitcher, but they’ll be keeping a close eye on Dean Kremer after what happened in Saturday’s game against the Colorado Rockies.
Kremer was pitching in the fourth inning when he faced a situation no pitcher ever wants to encounter.
A Rockies batter made solid contact with one of Kremer’s pitches, sending a line drive up the middle at nearly 104 mph. The ball struck Kremer’s left wrist, leaving him in significant pain as it ricocheted into the infield.
Scary situation in Denver as Dean Kremer takes a 103.1 mph comebacker off his forearm/wrist area. A large welt started to form immediately.

Kremer didn’t stay in the game much longer after taking the line drive. However, he remained on the field long enough for Justin Fenton of the Baltimore Banner to capture a screenshot of the damage. The right-hander quickly developed a noticeable welt on his wrist.

The Orioles informed reporters on-site that Kremer had suffered a right forearm contusion. The good news is that an MRI revealed no serious damage.
Baltimore will likely conduct further tests once the swelling subsides, as extensive bruising can sometimes obscure injuries on initial MRIs.
The next few days will determine how significant a setback this will be for Kremer and the rotation, which has already been hit hard this season.
