Ohio State’s 2025 Recruiting Class Adds Another Top talented star Receiver. During the Ryan Day era, Ohio State’s recruiting classes have consistently attracted top-tier receiver talent. Although the Buckeyes missed out on the top 10 wide receivers in the 2025 class, they’ve secured commitments from other highly-rated prospects. On Saturday, August 31, while the Buckeyes were preparing for, defeating, or returning from their victory over Akron, four-star receiver Phillip Bell committed to the program.
According to 247Sports, Bell is a four-star recruit, ranked as the 30th-best receiver in his class and the 22nd-best player from California. His commitment makes him the 26th recruit in Ohio State’s top-ranked 2025 class and the fourth wide receiver.

Ohio State won a recruiting battle against new Big Ten rival USC for the California native, making Bell the first Californian in the Buckeyes’ 2025 recruiting class.

Phillip Bell, a six-foot-three, 195-pound playmaker from Mission Viejo, California, has made a significant impact since his high school career began. Initially playing at Christian Brothers High School in Sacramento, Bell quickly established himself as one of California’s top receivers. As a freshman, he recorded 57 catches for 1,002 yards and 12 touchdowns. His sophomore year saw him improve further with 818 yards and 20 touchdowns on 73 receptions.

Last year, despite a step up in competition, Bell continued to impress, recording 56 receptions for 633 yards and seven touchdowns.
Bell is known for his excellent ball skills and remarkable body control. 247Sports notes that while he may be more quick than fast, his agility combined with superb route-running allows him to create separation that even faster receivers might struggle with. Despite being slightly smaller, Bell can fight through contact and consistently win 50/50 balls in the red zone. He has a reputation for being incredibly sure-handed, making difficult catches with exceptional focus in traffic.
His acceleration and track speed are evident after the catch, and he was one of the standout performers at the SoCal Under Armour Next Camp in March.
