Everyone is searching for the best deals during the holiday season, including Alex Anthopoulos, the president of baseball operations for the Atlanta Braves.

For AA and a lot of Braves supporters, the goal remains to add a major player this offseason for the starting rotation, ideally in left field. However, there are still a number of open roster spots that must be filled, most likely at a reasonable cost.

Come on, let’s go shopping on Black Friday!

Merrifield, Whit
The Braves now have a dependable bat that can play all over, even though the veteran utility player—who turns 35 in January—isn’t nearly the impact player he was in his early career.

Despite having an OPS+ of 94 at the end of the season, Merrifield did make the Blue Jays’ All-Star team the previous year. Since 2020, he has not had an OPS+ greater than 100.

Nevertheless, he struck.272 with more than 20 stolen bases and ten home runs.

Having Merrifield adds value because, if Vaughn Grissom stays in the Braves’ long-term plans, he could help shape Grissom into that super-utility role.

According to MLB Trade Rumors, Merrifield will sign a $18 million, two-year contract. I would try to get him available for $8 million for a year, with a $2 million buyout and a 2025 team option.

Severino Luis
I’ve been mentioning this name a lot in the offseason because of its enormous potential.
