The Detroit Tigers appeared headed for a three-game sweep by the San Diego Padres on Thursday night, trailing 3-0 as they entered the ninth inning. A loss would have further diminished their slim chances at a Wild Card spot.
However, facing immense pressure, the Tigers rallied, setting the stage for Parker Meadows with two outs and the bases loaded. Meadows battled to a full count and then, in a moment reminiscent of childhood dreams, smashed a stunning grand slam over the left-field fence. Jason Benetti, calling the game for Bally Sports Detroit, perfectly captured the shock of the moment, while Meadows celebrated in the dugout with a playful collection of fake pizzas on a stick.

San Diego had blanked Detroit in the series opener and erased a five-run deficit to win on Wednesday night, making this grand slam an even more significant momentum shift than usual.
Meadows, who had a tough rookie season in 2023 and has bounced between the majors and minors this year, has developed into a key contributor as the Tigers make a late-summer push up the standings.
