Herbstreit Rips FSU Disrespect as he stood up for the Florida State Seminoles on Saturday, September 14, only to become the punchline.
FSU entered the weekend winless at 0-2 after losses to Georgia Tech and Boston College, setting up a critical matchup with Memphis. With that rough start, several “College GameDay” hosts, including Pat McAfee and Nick Saban, predicted a Memphis win over the struggling Seminoles.
Herbstreit, backing FSU to win, took issue with what he perceived as “disrespect” toward a team that went undefeated in the 2023 season but missed the College Football Playoff, partly due to quarterback Jordan Travis’ injury late in the season.

“Let’s not forget, Memphis was Mike Norvell’s team before he came to Tallahassee,” Herbstreit remarked. “I can’t believe the disrespect for Florida State. I apologize for that.”
His defense of FSU was met with laughter, with McAfee countering that Memphis wasn’t being disrespected. The Tigers went on to defeat Florida State 20-12 later that day.
Even Desmond Howard, who also picked FSU to win, couldn’t help but laugh at Herbstreit’s “apology” for the so-called “disrespect” toward the program.
FSU’s season now sits at 0-3 after ending last year with a crushing 63-3 loss to Georgia in the Capital One Orange Bowl. With mounting pressure from fans and poor results, head coach Mike Norvell might be on the hot seat sooner than expected.
