Callahan Makes Bold Move After Admitting Loss of Confidence in His Quarterback

Tennessee Titans coach Brian Callahan doesn’t seem to have much confidence in quarterback Will Levis at the moment.

Levis made another significant error during Tennessee’s 24-17 loss to the New York Jets on Sunday. On a critical 3rd and goal play, Levis tried to keep the play alive despite a collapsing pocket, resulting in a fumble that cost the team three vital points. Cameras caught Callahan visibly frustrated on the sidelines with his second-year quarterback.

The frustration hadn’t dissipated the next day, as Callahan remained candid about the situation.

“I don’t regret how I felt at the time,” Callahan said on Monday, per Turron Davenport of ESPN. “I’m usually pretty composed, but that one really got to me. I’m human like everyone else, and sometimes I just lose it.”

In other words, Callahan’s view of Levis hasn’t improved, even with time to reflect. It’s understandable given Levis also had a costly turnover in Week 1 that left Callahan upset the following day as well.

Levis needs to recognize when to cut his losses and consider the bigger picture rather than forcing miraculous plays. If things don’t change soon, Callahan’s faith in Levis may continue to decline, potentially opening the door for Mason Rudolph to step in.
