Braves’ Newest Addition Hits a Snag: Injury Strikes Just Hours After Signing
The Atlanta Braves, struggling with numerous injuries to key players like Ronald Acuña Jr. and Ozzie Albies, signed Whit Merrifield on Monday in hopes of bolstering their lineup. However, Merrifield’s debut took a setback as he injured his right hand while fielding ground balls. Though X-rays were clear, he’s now listed as day-to-day.
You might not believe it, but it’s true: Whit Merrifield took a ball off a finger of his throwing hand while taking grounders an hour ago, is being evaluated now to make sure there’s no damage.
As Snitker said, managing to smile, “Can’t make it up….This year is something else.”

Merrifield, who was released by the Phillies on July 12 after a challenging first half of the season, is currently hitting .199 with a .572 OPS. Despite his recent struggles, the Braves remain optimistic that he can regain his form and contribute effectively in 2024.
