No Regrets: Bengals Coach Zac Taylor Sends Unfiltered Warning to Cornerback After Loss to Commanders

Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Cam Taylor-Britt received backlash on Monday night from fans and his own head coach following the team’s 38-33 loss to the Washington Commanders.

Bengals head coach Zac Taylor was questioned about Taylor-Britt’s earlier remarks, in which he described Washington’s offense as “college-like,” suggesting that quarterback Jayden Daniels was benefiting from it.

Taylor strongly disagreed with the third-year corner’s comments about their opponents. “That’s not what we do,” he stated. “We praise our own team and respect the other team. We don’t need to make disparaging remarks like that. That team hasn’t punted in two weeks and has scored on every possession during that time.”

Taylor-Britt’s comments targeted both Daniels and offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury, as he noted, “They don’t make him [Daniels] do a lot. They keep it really simple for him. It’s a nice college offense; [Kliff] Kingsbury, the OC, loves to move guys around, but they keep it real simple for him. I heard his pass percentage is very high, but he’s only throwing short routes and some intermediate stuff.” This “simple” offensive strategy led Daniels to complete 21 of 23 passes for 254 yards and two touchdowns, while also leading the Commanders in rushing with 39 yards and a touchdown.

When asked if he regretted his comments, Taylor-Britt stated he did not, clarifying that his remarks were not meant to be malicious. “No ma’am, I do not regret it,” he said. “I didn’t mean anything harmful; it just got blown out of proportion. Yes, I can admit I was wrong. We did take an L today. It was sort of a college offense—very quick throws. He’s athletic and can extend plays. That’s how the game unfolded; they stuck to their game plan.” The Commanders’ strategy proved effective, and while it’s uncertain if Taylor-Britt’s remarks motivated their performance, it’s clear he likely received some feedback from Coach Taylor.
