Latest Update: Pittsburgh Steelers cut ties with former Patriots tight end

The Pittsburgh Steelers have released tight end Matt Sokol from their practice squad, as announced by the team on Tuesday. Sokol was signed to the practice squad just a week ago following a knee injury to MyCole Pruitt, and Rodney Williams has since been promoted to the active roster.

Pittsburgh may consider bringing in an outside wide receiver to help replicate the depth of the Indianapolis Colts’ receiving corps, which features four key players. Sokol, who signed with the Steelers late in July ahead of padded practices, spent much of the summer with the team.

An undrafted free agent from Michigan State in 2019, Sokol began his career with the Los Angeles Chargers and has also played for the Jacksonville Jaguars, New England Patriots, and Detroit Lions. The Steelers still have one practice squad spot open, after promoting cornerback James Pierre to the active roster and releasing Sokol.
