The 1-2 Chicago Bears are off to a rough start this season, as their top draft pick deals with the growing pains of being a rookie. Caleb Williams, selected first overall, has been outshined by the No. 2 pick, Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels.
Daniels put on a show against the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday night, scoring three touchdowns in a 38-33 win. According to Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune, an NFL defensive coordinator took notice, asking Biggs if the Bears made a mistake in their draft choice.
While Biggs refrained from making that judgment, he acknowledged that the question could stir up memories in Chicago of when Patrick Mahomes revealed the Bears had considered drafting him before opting for Mitch Trubisky instead.
Despite Williams setting a Bears rookie record with 363 passing yards in Week 3, the comparison lingers. As Daniels continues to shine and the Bears’ offense struggles behind a shaky offensive line, the debate will remain over whether Chicago missed out on the 2023 Heisman winner from LSU.
