Recently, Paul Finebaum, on his show, hinted that Auburn’s head coach, Hugh Freeze, may soon be feeling that pressure after the Tigers started the season with a disappointing 2-3 record.
Compounding this concern is the fact that Auburn entered the season as the favorite in each of their games, leading many to believe they could secure victories throughout September. However, after this rocky start, Finebaum is starting to forecast a bleak outlook for the team, suggesting that another losing season may be on the horizon, which could jeopardize Freeze’s position at the university.
Finebaum noted, “When you take a look at the schedule, you start to wonder if this isn’t looking like another losing season under Hugh Freeze. This would make it two consecutive losing seasons, and for Auburn, that’s a troubling sign.”
Auburn’s upcoming schedule is daunting, featuring four ranked opponents. This weekend, they will face off against the formidable No. 5 Georgia Bulldogs in a challenging away game. Following that, the team has a BYE week before heading to Missouri to battle the No. 9 Tigers.
With three losses already, Auburn faces a steep hill to climb if they hope to qualify for a bowl game. To secure their spot, they must not only defeat one of the four ranked teams remaining on their schedule but also win all their other matches. This presents a significant challenge for Freeze as he enters his second year at the helm, especially since Auburn is aiming for its first winning season since 2020. The pressure is mounting, and the coming weeks will be critical for the program’s future and Freeze’s tenure.
