The Baltimore Orioles are choosing not to overreact to their playoff exit this year.
During a press conference on Thursday, Orioles GM Mike Elias announced that the team has decided to retain manager Brandon Hyde for the 2025 season, according to Roch Kubatko of MASN.
Hyde has managed the Orioles since 2019, posting a record of 406-464 (.467) over his six years in charge. However, this record doesn’t tell the whole story, as he successfully guided the team through a complete rebuild in his early years and helped develop their young core into a legitimate contender.
Last season, Hyde led the Orioles to 101 wins and their first division title since 2014, earning AL Manager of the Year honors for his efforts. This season, Baltimore recorded 91 wins and secured the first wild-card spot in a highly competitive American League.
Despite this success, Hyde has struggled in the playoffs, failing to win a postseason game during his tenure. After being swept 3-0 by the Texas Rangers in the ALDS last season, the Orioles were recently swept 2-0 by the Kansas City Royals in the AL wild-card series.
Nevertheless, the Orioles may still be ahead of schedule with stars like Gunnar Henderson (23), Adley Rutschman (26), Jordan Westburg (25), Anthony Santander (29), Corbin Burnes (29), and Jackson Holliday (20) ready to contribute to their long-term success. Instead of changing managers, the Orioles may prioritize addressing some significant gaps that emerged in their roster this season.
