Latest Report: Titans QB in serious pain over AC Joint Sprain, expected to be sidelined for several weeks

Titans head coach Brian Callahan has thrown his support behind Will Levis as the team’s starting quarterback. However, the second-year QB may still be dealing with the lingering effects of a shoulder injury when Tennessee returns to action.

Levis, who suffered an AC joint sprain in his throwing shoulder during the Titans’ Week 4 win over the Dolphins, is recovering, according to veteran reporter Paul Kuharsky. Kuharsky notes that Levis would likely be unavailable for Week 5 if the Titans weren’t on their bye. The 25-year-old is expected to play in Week 6, though he may still experience some discomfort.

The 2024 season has focused on Levis’ development as he navigates his first full year as a starter. Despite high hopes, his performance has been inconsistent, highlighted by nine turnovers so far. Despite these struggles, Callahan confirmed after Week 4 that Levis will keep his starting role after the bye. If Levis is unable to play, Mason Rudolph will take over as the starting quarterback.

Rudolph briefly replaced Levis during Monday night’s game, overseeing a run-focused offense. He completed nine of 17 passes for 85 yards without a touchdown. His performance in training camp and preseason secured his spot as the backup over Malik Willis. At 29, Rudolph has some starting experience, particularly from his time with the Steelers. The decision on whether Levis will start in Week 6 hinges on his recovery.

Callahan also mentioned that the Titans are exploring adding a quarterback to the practice squad as insurance, should Levis not be fully ready for Week 6. However, for now, Levis is expected to return by then.
