Former No. 1 overall MLB draft pick Matt Bush was arrested in Arlington, Texas, on Friday night on suspicion of driving while intoxicated (DWI) after colliding with several vehicles. And Rangers struggles on defense as they unfortunately lost top prominent starter
Bush, selected first overall by the San Diego Padres in 2004, was seen driving erratically on Pioneer Parkway. According to FOX 4, Arlington police attempted to pull over Bush’s 2023 Lincoln Aviator, but he fled the scene.
He reportedly ran a red light and crashed into one car, then hit two others. Although he tried to escape on foot, he was caught and detained by bystanders.
Both Bush and the driver of the first vehicle he struck were taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. Bush refused a roadside sobriety test, leading police to take a blood sample.
He was booked into Arlington City Jail on charges of DWI, causing an accident with injuries, and evading arrest. And Rangers struggles on defense as they unfortunately lost top prominent starter.
If convicted, this would mark him as a repeat offender.
The 38-year-old previously served 51 months in prison for injuring a motorcyclist while driving drunk in December 2012. He was released by the Tampa Bay Rays due to that incident and completed 39 months in state prison. After his release, he signed with the Texas Rangers and made his MLB debut as a relief pitcher in 2016.
In total, Bush has played in 217 MLB games, achieving a 3.75 ERA over 211 career innings across six seasons, primarily with the Rangers. He was let go by the Brewers after finishing the 2023 season with a 0-2 record and a 9.58 ERA.
