Seahawks in Bad Shape As They Awfully Lose Top Starter

RENTON, Wash. — The Seattle Seahawks are set to place outside linebacker Uchenna Nwosu on injured reserve due to a thigh injury, according to a source who confirmed the report to ESPN on Tuesday.

As the Seahawks’ top edge defender, Nwosu will miss at least the next four games, making him eligible to return for their Week 11 matchup against the San Francisco 49ers in Santa Clara, following Seattle’s bye week.

Head coach Mike Macdonald indicated on Monday that Nwosu would not participate in Thursday’s game against the 49ers, adding, “We’ll see in the next few days if it’s going to be longer than that.”

Nwosu, a seventh-year veteran, had already missed the final 11 games of the 2023 season due to a torn pectoral muscle and sat out the first four games of this season because of an MCL sprain sustained during the preseason finale. His return on Sunday marked his first game in nearly a year, but it was cut short after he played just 20 snaps in Seattle’s loss to the New York Giants.

The Seahawks may also be without rookie defensive tackle Byron Murphy II for Thursday’s game as they try to break a five-game losing streak against San Francisco. Murphy, Seattle’s first-round pick, has missed the last two games due to a hamstring injury, and Macdonald suggested it might take another week for him to return.

Additionally, cornerback Riq Woolen (ankle) and outside linebackers Derick Hall (foot) and Boye Mafe (knee) are also likely to be unavailable.
