NY Jets Officially Sign Rival`s Starter on a Multi-Million Dollar Deal

It’s not a sure thing that the Las Vegas Raiders will trade wide receiver Davante Adams, especially not to the New York Jets.

The trade deadline is set for November 5, and the Raiders are reportedly seeking a second-round pick, along with having the new team assume the rest of Adams’ contract, which includes $16.89 million owed for this season. No teams have met those demands yet, or Adams would likely have already been traded.

Davante Adams fit with Jets: Trade could lift Aaron Rodgers, offense

In fact, ESPN’s Adam Schefter noted that interest in Adams hasn’t been overwhelming.

Adams is expected to miss his third consecutive game due to a hamstring injury, and he might be watching a surprising factor that could impact any trade: quarterback Aidan O’Connell.

The Raiders plan to start O’Connell this week instead of Gardner Minshew II, who has been the starter but isn’t injured. The team is hoping for an offensive spark from O’Connell.

While this move might not seem like it would affect Adams’ trade prospects, Schefter reported that O’Connell could significantly influence Adams’ feelings about remaining with the Raiders this season.

Davante Adams Trade Talks Paused Amid Uncertainty Around The NFL

Adams has been a strong supporter of O’Connell, who started the last four games of the previous season and performed well, throwing eight touchdowns without any interceptions. Adams would likely thrive with O’Connell as his quarterback.

Schefter mentioned that Adams regards O’Connell as one of the best quarterbacks he’s played with and is interested in the opportunity to team up again. This bond, combined with Adams’ sluggish trade market, “should not be overlooked.”

There may be potential movement this week as the NFL‘s fall owners meeting takes place in Atlanta on Tuesday, bringing Raiders owner Mark Davis together with the other 31 owners. This could facilitate negotiations with interested teams.

However, if Davis remains firm on his asking price, it could complicate matters, especially as the trade deadline approaches and the Raiders’ season outlook becomes clearer. At least four other NFL teams are reportedly interested in acquiring Adams.

Despite having 18 receptions for 209 yards and a touchdown in three games this season, Adams has been one of the league’s top receivers since 2014. During his eight seasons with Green Bay, he recorded 669 receptions for 8,121 yards and 73 touchdowns.

He earned All-Pro honors in his first season with the Raiders in 2022, accumulating 203 receptions in his first two years with the team.
