Saints Head Coach Provides Report On Top QB`s Future
The New Orleans Saints have faced a tough couple of weeks without Derek Carr, but his return might be on the horizon.
On Friday, head coach Dennis Allen spoke with reporters about Carr’s potential comeback from his oblique injury. Allen suggested that Carr could be back for the Week 8 game against the Los Angeles Chargers, although he indicated that a return in Week 9 against the Carolina Panthers is more likely.
“We’re getting closer,” Allen stated regarding Carr’s recovery, as reported by Katherine Terrell of ESPN. “I’m not sure he’ll be ready for the Chargers game; that’s questionable.”
He added, “It’s very likely for the following week [against Carolina]. We just need to monitor his progress over the next few days to get a clearer picture of his availability for this weekend.”
Carr a former Pro Bowler, has been sidelined since injuring himself during a loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 5. In his absence, rookie quarterback Spencer Rattler has taken over, but the team has suffered two heavy defeats (51-27 to Tampa Bay and 33-10 to Denver). Rattler’s performance has been rocky, with one touchdown and two interceptions, and one particularly poor play stood out during the loss to the Broncos.
Known for his toughness, Carr has played through significant injuries before. With over a week until the Saints’ next game, the 33-year-old quarterback could be in line for a Week 8 return, though he might do so without one of his top offensive players.
