Kalen DeBoer Declares War on Weakness: ‘Excuses Only Cripple Character

Alabama football has already suffered two losses this season, even before November arrives.

This is the first time that’s happened since 2007, the year Nick Saban began coaching the Crimson Tide.

In his inaugural season as head coach, Kalen DeBoer is now focused on finding ways to steer the team back on course after two defeats in three weeks.

During his Monday press conference following the recent loss to Tennessee, DeBoer emphasized that excuses are not an option.

“The message will always be that excuses are unacceptable,” DeBoer stated. “Making excuses only undermines character and lowers standards, and that will never be tolerated.”

He highlighted the importance of concentrating on solutions and progress.

“I truly believe we have a lot of talented individuals—players and staff—working together,” DeBoer said. “That collaboration will make a difference.”

Alabama aims to achieve complete performances where offense, defense, and special teams function cohesively, which hasn’t been the case recently. DeBoer pointed out the need to reduce mistakes and penalties.

“All the factors that can set you back during SEC games create a very narrow margin between victory and defeat,” he explained. “That responsibility falls on all of us, starting with me, as I strive to maintain a standard that fosters high performance.”
