Bryce Underwood is widely regarded as the top quarterback in the 2025 college football recruiting class. This five-star prospect from Michigan committed to LSU in January, turning down over 40 other scholarship offers from nearly every elite program in the nation.
However, rumors suggest he might reconsider his commitment in favor of the Wolverines due to a significant NIL deal. Underwood himself appeared to dismiss these rumors, even laughing at the notion on social media.
Interestingly, chatter about a potential flip only emerged recently. Some speculation stems from an Ann Arbor-based 247 Sports affiliate, The Michigan Insider, where Sam Webb hinted at “fireworks” on the site’s message board last week.
Adding to the intrigue, Dave Portnoy recently pledged over $3 million to the University of Michigan’s NIL fund, vowing to help ensure his alma mater secures a top-10 quarterback in every recruiting class. The Barstool Sports owner reiterated his commitment following a loss to Illinois on Saturday night.
To all Michigan fans. Im working on it.

Thanks to Portnoy’s financial commitment, there’s been a surge of speculation surrounding Underwood. The 6-foot-3, 205-pound quarterback, who hails from Michigan, is currently the top overall recruit in the nation.
If Portnoy is investing $3 million to help the Wolverines secure a quarterback, targeting an in-state talent deemed the best in the country for that position seems logical. But it may not be as straightforward as it sounds.
Bryce Underwood is not interested!
A well-known college football meme account shared an image on Instagram over the weekend, alleging that Underwood was offered $4 million to choose Michigan over LSU. However, this claim seems to be false.
Underwood reacted to the post by simply responding with four laughing emojis, indicating his disbelief.
Absolutely! The college football rumor mill is always churning. There’s always someone claiming to have “inside info” from a convoluted source, but a lot of it is just nonsense. It’s important to take such rumors with a grain of salt!
