Draft Dreams Dwindle: A Top QB’s Stock Slips Amid Ongoing Challenges

It’s been a rocky season for Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Carson Beck. Although UGA holds the No. 2 ranking with a 6-1 record and victories over No. 9 Clemson and No. 5 Texas, some argue the team has succeeded despite Beck’s struggles. Initially seen as a contender to be the first quarterback taken in the 2025 NFL Draft, his poor performance, including multiple interception games against Alabama, has likely cost the Bulldogs a win.

He also had minimal impact in the wins against Texas and Kentucky. Consequently, many draft analysts are lowering their expectations for Beck, including Athlon Sports’ Luke Easterling, who has omitted him from the first round of his latest mock draft. Instead, he predicts Miami’s Cam Ward will be the first QB selected, going to the Tennessee Titans at No. 4.

Easterling expects both Beck and Texas’ Quinn Ewers to drop out of the first round based on their performances this season. After seven games, Beck has completed 66% of his passes for 1,993 yards, with 15 touchdowns and eight interceptions, a career high. His completion rate has decreased by 6.4% from last season, and he’s averaging 1.5 fewer yards per completion.

Among college quarterbacks, Beck ranks 11th in passing yards, 15th in touchdowns, and 10th in interceptions. Strong showings against No. 18 Ole Miss and No. 7 Tennessee in November could help boost his draft prospects, but he’s currently leaning towards a second-round selection. Other potential late first-round quarterbacks include Alabama’s Jalen Milroe and LSU’s Garrett Nussmeier.
