The Pittsburgh Steelers have been linked to potential wide receiver trades since the offseason, particularly after sending Diontae Johnson to Carolina. This move was likely intended to make room for rookie Roman Wilson in the offense. However, Wilson’s season has been marred by injuries, starting with a high ankle sprain that kept him out of the first five games. He finally made his debut in Week 6 against the Raiders, but was inactive against the Jets and reportedly aggravated his ankle injury, missing practice on Thursday.
With Wilson’s status uncertain, the Steelers find themselves once again short on wide receiver depth. Coach Mike Tomlin emphasized the need for Wilson’s consistent participation, stating, “His participation got compromised some last week. And so, really, once it got compromised, I moved on.”
This situation has reignited trade discussions in Pittsburgh. George Pickens, Van Jefferson, and Calvin Austin III have stepped up in Wilson’s absence, and the team is cautious about adding new players, especially since quarterback Russell Wilson has finally settled into the lineup. The passing game has functioned well, but another injury could leave the Steelers vulnerable again, intensifying trade speculation ahead of the November 5 deadline.
