Broncos’ Star Player on the Mend After Shocking Shooting Incident Outside Strip Club

The Denver Broncos announced this week that wide receiver Josh Reynolds sustained “minor injuries” after being shot in the arm and back of the head while leaving a local strip club last Friday morning.

Josh Reynolds was a victim of a shooting on Friday in Denver and received treatment for minor injuries,” the team stated. “We will defer further comments on this matter to the authorities out of respect for the legal process.”

Reynolds, 29, has reportedly returned to the Broncos’ training facility several times this week, with local 9News noting that he was back at the team facility later on the same day as the incident.

According to reports, Reynolds and another man were followed by two individuals after leaving the club around 3 a.m. local time and were shot at while driving. Police documents indicated that the vehicle’s driver called 911 to report the shooting, but during the call, the victim stopped responding and appeared to be running.

The Denver Police Department confirmed to PEOPLE that two men have been arrested in connection with the shooting. Police identified the suspects as 42-year-old Burr Charlesworth and 35-year-old Luis Mendoza, who are being investigated for attempted first-degree murder and first-degree assault.

The two adult male victims were in a vehicle during the shooting and eventually pulled over on the shoulder of southbound Interstate 25 near Belleview Avenue,” the police statement noted. “Both victims were taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.”

The Denver Gazette reported Thursday that a team source described the incident as “traumatic” for Reynolds, but he is expected to be “back on the field soon.”

The eight-year NFL veteran has been on the injured reserve list since fracturing his finger in a game against the Las Vegas Raiders on October 6. The “minor” injuries from the shooting are not anticipated to extend his recovery time this season.

PEOPLE has contacted Reynolds‘ representatives for comment but has not received a response as of Friday morning.
