Steve Sarkisian identifies a key player that Texas needs to energize.
The Texas Longhorns are facing a challenge at wide receiver, but it’s one that many college teams would envy: they have so much talent that not everyone can shine.
As a result, some players, like former five-star recruit Johntay Cook II, have struggled to find playing time. Cook hasn’t played in the last two games and hasn’t made a catch since September 28, when he dropped a potential 50+ yard touchdown pass from Arch Manning. With Isaiah Bond out for the game against Vanderbilt, it seemed like a perfect opportunity for Cook to re-enter the rotation.
However, Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian emphasized the need to reintegrate Cook into the offense, according to Anwar Richardson from Orangebloods. Sarkisian noted he was proud of how the receivers performed in Bond’s absence and highlighted the importance of both Bond’s return and getting Cook more involved.
With a bye week ahead, Bond has extra time to recover, giving Sarkisian a chance to devise a plan for incorporating Cook. The competition for snaps is fierce with standout players like Bond, five-star freshman Ryan Wingo, DeAndre Moore, and Matthew Golden, who has been making impressive plays. Sarkisian’s focus on Cook suggests that significant changes could be on the horizon for the talented receiver.
