Astros Begin New Chapter in Quest for Third Base and Infield Coach.

 

HOUSTON — The Astros officially announced the hiring of Tony Perezchica as their new third-base and infield coach/run-prevention coordinator on Thursday. He takes over from Gary Pettis, who did not have his contract renewed after a decade in the role.

 

 

 

Diamondbacks Lose Coach Tony Perizchica to Astros

 

 

Perezchica previously served as the third-base coach for the Diamondbacks from 2017 to 2024, and he has extensive experience within the Arizona organization, including roles as a Minor League manager and field coordinator from 2003 to 2016. A native of Mexicali, Mexico, he played parts of four seasons as an infielder in the Major Leagues with the Giants and Cleveland.

 

 

 

 

In addition to Perezchica’s hiring, Jason Bell, who was the quality assurance coach last season, will now serve as the Major League field coordinator and outfield coach.

 

 

 

 

Omar López returns for his second season as bench coach and sixth with the Major League staff, while Dave Clark will also return as first-base coach for his second season. Hitting coach Alex Cintrón becomes the longest-tenured member of the Astros coaching staff, entering his ninth season overall and seventh as hitting coach. Pitching coach Josh Miller and hitting coach Troy Snitker will each be in their seventh season with the Major League team in 2025.

Major League coach Michael Collins returns for his sixth season with the staff and eighth with the organization, while pitching coach Bill Murphy begins his fifth year. Tommy Kawamura,  who joined the Major League staff as the game-planning coach in 2023, will be back for his third season.
