Giants Confirm Addition of New Pitching Coach to Bob Melvin’s Staff
With Bryan Price stepping down this week, the San Francisco Giants officially announced the promotion of assistant pitching coach J.P. Martinez to the role of pitching coach on manager Bob Melvin’s staff.
At 42, Martinez brings continuity to the pitching team, having been with the Giants since 2021 and remaining as one of the few holdovers from former manager Gabe Kapler’s tenure. He previously worked alongside director of pitching Brian Bannister and pitching coach Andrew Bailey until both left after the 2023 season.
One of Martinez’s key challenges for the 2025 season will be guiding a group of young pitchers, including lefty starter Kyle Harrison, who had a promising rookie season but faced significant injuries over the summer. Other young arms like Hayden Birdsong, Tristan Beck, and Landen Roupp are expected to compete for rotation spots and increased responsibilities.
