Minnesota Gophers Men’s Basketball Secures 3-Star Recruit from California
The Minnesota Gophers basketball team will kick off their 2024-25 season on November 6th against Oral Roberts at The Barn. This opener not only signals the start of a new season but also the beginning of head coach Ben Johnson’s fourth year at the helm.
Meanwhile, Johnson continues to focus on recruiting, and his efforts bore fruit on Thursday when the Golden Gophers secured a commitment from three-star prospect Jacob Ross from California for the class of 2025.
3 star Jacob Ross has committed to the Minnesota Gophers.
Jacob Ross, a standout from SoCal Academy in California, announced his commitment to Minnesota via Instagram. At 6’6″ and 170 pounds, with a 7-foot wingspan, Ross is a versatile player who excels on both ends of the court, making him a strong addition to the Maroon and Gold.
Known for his three-point shooting ability, Ross also possesses the skills to drive aggressively to the basket, creating his own shot and generating easy opportunities for teammates. His attacking style often leads to drawing fouls when he goes to the rim.
Defensively, as shown in the clip above, Ross brings significant energy, consistently disrupting plays and keeping opponents on edge. His hustle and intensity promise to be exciting to watch in the upcoming season. Ross chose Minnesota over offers from schools like Old Dominion, Albany, Coastal Carolina, and Charleston.
He is the second commitment for the Gophers in the 2025 class, joining fellow three-star recruit Kai Shinholser from Pennsylvania. However, the pressure is on head coach Ben Johnson, as he needs to achieve success with the 2024 team to secure his future and the arrival of the 2025 class in Dinkytown.
