Miami Dolphins Bolster Roster With Shocking Move. The Miami Dolphins have announced the release of long snapper Matt Overton from their practice squad.
Overton has appeared in 142 games over 11 seasons, playing for Indianapolis (2012-2016), Jacksonville (2017-2018), Tennessee (2020), the L.A. Chargers (2021), Dallas (2022), and Miami (2024). During his career, he recorded 17 special teams tackles, including nine solo.
He was named to the Pro Bowl in 2013 and has played in nine postseason games with Indianapolis (2012-2014), Tennessee (2020), and Dallas (2022). In 2024, Overton participated in three games for the Dolphins during Weeks 7, 8, and 9.
Overton entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2007, signing with Seattle, where he spent training camp. He also played for the Tri-Cities Fever (2008) in the National Indoor Football League and had stints with the Florida Tuskers (2009) and Omaha Nighthawks (2010) in the United Football League.
Overton played college football at Western Washington (2005-2006), where he was a two-year starter at defensive end and long snapper, as well as team captain. Prior to transferring to Western Washington, he attended Diablo Valley College (2003-2004).
