The Steelers have acquired wide receiver Mike Williams in a trade with the New York Jets, pending a physical. In return, Pittsburgh is sending a fifth-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft to New York.
Williams, who is in his eighth NFL season, joined the Jets in the 2024 offseason after spending seven years with the Los Angeles Chargers. This season, he played in nine games for the Jets, starting three, and recorded 12 catches for 166 yards. Over the course of his eight-year career, Williams has appeared in 97 games, starting 65, with 321 receptions for 4,972 yards and 31 touchdowns. He also has 10 carries for 34 yards and one rushing touchdown.
Drafted by the Chargers as the seventh overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, Williams spent seven seasons in Los Angeles, appearing in 88 games and starting 62. During that time, he caught 309 passes for 4,806 yards (a 15.6-yard average) and 31 touchdowns, including a long of 72 yards. Williams also recorded 10 rushing attempts for 34 yards and one touchdown, totaling 4,840 yards from scrimmage.
Williams made two postseason appearances with the Chargers in 2018, totaling seven receptions for 110 yards, averaging 15.7 yards per catch. He had two 1,000-yard seasons, including in 2019, when he posted 49 catches for 1,001 yards and a 20.4-yard average per reception, the highest in the league that year for a player with at least 40 catches. In 2021, he set career highs with 76 receptions and 1,146 yards.
In 2018, Williams set a career high with 11 total touchdowns (10 receiving, 1 rushing). He was named AFC Offensive Player of the Week in Week 15 after scoring three touchdowns—two receiving and one rushing—in a win over the Kansas City Chiefs, along with a game-winning two-point conversion catch with 10 seconds left.
