Dolphins Star Claims Police Detainment Made Wrist Injury Worse, Tyreek Hill, despite playing through a painful wrist injury, continued to contribute to the Miami Dolphins season. The five-time Pro Bowl wide receiver hurt his left wrist during training camp, suffering a torn ligament. However, the injury wasn’t aggravated by a hit on the field.
Hill revealed that it worsened after a police detainment during a traffic stop outside Hard Rock Stadium, ahead of the Dolphins’ season opener. He explained to ESPN’s Lisa Salters that the arrest “messed me up,” though he refused to let it affect his performance. Hill admitted he had kept quiet about the injury because he wasn’t used to dealing with being hurt, but made it clear he wouldn’t let it stop him from playing.
For the Dolphins’ Monday night game against the Los Angeles Rams, Hill was listed as questionable, with the decision on whether he would undergo wrist surgery remaining an “internal” conversation, according to his agent, Drew Rosenhaus. Despite the lingering pain, Hill remained determined to perform at a high level.
Hill showed his resilience during the game, catching a crucial 1-yard touchdown to help seal a 23-15 victory. However, his post-touchdown celebration with teammate Odell Beckham — a pro wrestling-inspired move — became a source of lighthearted regret. On Tuesday, Hill tweeted, “I’ll never plan a celebration with Odell again,” acknowledging that the celebration didn’t go as smoothly as hoped.
Hill’s determination to play through pain, paired with his willingness to have fun on the field, highlights both his competitive spirit and sense of humor, even amid adversity. The wrist injury continues to be a concern, but for now, Hill is focused on helping the Dolphins succeed.
