Lakers Star Hit with Setback, Out for at Least Four Weeks, Christian Wood, the Lakers’ big man, has encountered a setback in his recovery from arthroscopic knee surgery and will be out for at least four more weeks, according to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin. Wood, who had surgery in early September, developed soreness in his knee during his rehabilitation process. The team plans to reassess his condition in four weeks.
This is Wood’s second knee surgery this year, having undergone a similar procedure in March following an injury that cut his 2023/24 season short. Although he was cleared to play in the final two games of the Lakers first-round playoff series against Denver, the team opted not to use him after his long absence from action.
Wood played an inconsistent yet valuable role for the Lakers last season, averaging 6.9 points and 5.1 rebounds across 50 games. However, his shooting percentages were below his career norms, with him hitting just 46.6% from the field and 30.7% from three. With his return now delayed until mid-December at the earliest, the Lakers will continue to rely on Anthony Davis and Jaxson Hayes to handle the majority of the center minutes.
Should Wood make a return in December, it will have been nearly 10 months since he last played in an NBA game. As a result, it may take him time to find his rhythm and return to his usual form. In the meantime, the Lakers will need to adapt without him, while hoping for a full recovery in the coming weeks.
