Oregon football continues to strengthen its 2025 recruiting class as it secures another top talent. After Dan Lanning’s team earned a spot in the Big Ten championship game with a hard-fought victory in Madison, Wisconsin, their success extends beyond the field. As Dillon Gabriel and the team edge closer to a potential College Football Playoff spot, 5-star wide receiver Dakorien Moore has officially ended his recruitment.
Moore, ranked as the fourth-best player in the nation, has committed to Oregon, as reported by National Recruiting/Transfer Portal Reporter Hayes Fawcett. The receiver from Duncanville High School is now the highest-ranked offensive player in Lanning’s sixth-ranked recruiting class for 2025. Moore chose the Ducks over top contenders like Texas and LSU.
Oregon football’s momentum continues in its first year in the Big Ten
Oregon football has had an exceptional first year in the Big Ten, remaining undefeated with several standout performances throughout the season. Their biggest win so far came against No. 2 Ohio State, a team the Ducks could face again in a few weeks in Indianapolis for the Big Ten championship.
A key to Oregon’s success this season has been their balance and consistency. While their offense averages 33.9 points per game ranking not among the nation’s top scorers they’ve scored 30 or more points in all but two of their eleven victories. The only game where Dan Lanning’s team scored less than 20 points was in Saturday’s dramatic comeback win against Wisconsin. On the defensive side, the Ducks have been dominant, giving up only 15.7 points per game, which ranks ninth in the country.
Although Oregon isn’t running up massive scores, star quarterback Dillon Gabriel, running back Jordan James, and the strong defense have consistently controlled games from start to finish. Thanks to this approach, Oregon is now the only team that has essentially secured a spot in the College Football Playoff.
Looking ahead, Oregon has one final regular-season game before the Big Ten championship against their old rival, Washington, on November 30. The “Border War” will take place in Eugene, with Dillon Gabriel playing his final game at Autzen Stadium. The Big Ten championship game will follow on December 7, with the top-5 matchup between Indiana and Ohio State likely determining who Oregon will face.
If the Ducks defeat the Huskies, they could secure either the No. 1 or No. 5 seed in the inaugural 12-team College Football Playoff, depending on the outcome of the championship. Either way, both positions would place Oregon in an excellent spot to make a deep playoff run and potentially win their first national championship.
Overall, this season is pivotal for Dan Lanning’s program, but the addition of top recruit Dakorien Moore strengthens their future. With the loss of three of their top four receiving leaders, including senior wideouts Tez Johnson and Traeshon Holden, Moore will join a program where he’s expected to contribute right away a scenario where someone of his talent should thrive.
