Dodgers Set to Skip Willy Adames, Eye $190 Million All-Star Ace
The Los Angeles Dodgers, fresh off their 2024 World Series win, are looking to fill roster gaps ahead of next season. While they’ve been linked to shortstop Willy Adames, there’s speculation that president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman might prioritize signing two-time All-Star pitcher Max Fried instead. With several question marks in their rotation and free-agent departures, Fried, who has a strong track record with the Atlanta Braves, could be the key to strengthening their pitching staff.
The Dodgers are considering whether to pursue shortstop Willy Adames, but with multiple teams interested, a bidding war might emerge. Instead, Los Angeles could shift focus to strengthening their pitching staff by adding Max Fried to the top of their rotation, which could be a strategic pivot.
Ryan Finkelstein from Just Baseball predicts that the Philadelphia Phillies will sign Willy Adames to an eight-year, $192 million contract, while the Dodgers will commit $190 million over seven years to Max Fried, bolstering their rotation instead of pursuing the shortstop.
Max Fried boasts a solid career ERA of 3.07 and has surpassed 165 innings in four of the past five seasons. Given that the Braves haven’t extended him yet, it seems likely he’ll test free agency. Fried could land a deal of at least six years, potentially surpassing $30 million annually, with a team like the Dodgers being a prime destination.
