Phillies in deep talks with White Sox for ace lefty.
The Chicago White Sox have been clear sellers for nearly two years, still holding tradeable assets that could attract contenders like the Philadelphia Phillies.
The Philadelphia Phillies are in “extensive trade talks” with the Chicago White Sox about acquiring left-hander Garrett Crochet. According to MLB insider Bob Nightengale, the potential deal could involve Crochet, Phillies’ infielder Alec Bohm, and outfielder prospect Justin Crawford. Despite Bohm’s second-half struggles last season, the 20-year-old Crawford, the Phillies’ third-best prospect, is considered the key asset. Crawford impressed in Double-A in 2024, posting a strong .835 OPS in 40 games.
The Phillies likely wouldn’t hesitate to trade Alec Bohm, who posted a solid .780 OPS for the season but saw a dip to .681 after the All-Star break.
Garrett Crochet would be a strong addition to the Phillies’ rotation, potentially slotting in as one of MLB’s top number 2-3 starters. With a 3.58 ERA and 209 strikeouts last season, he wouldn’t face ace-level pressure in Philadelphia, thanks to the presence of Zack Wheeler, Aaron Nola, and Andrew Painter.
While many teams are eyeing Crochet, the fact that the Phillies are already in talks shows their serious intent. With promising young assets to offer, a trade is certainly a possibility.
