The Wolverines’ recruiting momentum continues to grow following their recent success in flipping five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood from LSU. Now, as the early signing period on December 4 approaches, Sherrone Moore and his staff are focused on another potential flip: five-star offensive lineman Ty Haywood. The timing is crucial, as Haywood plans to sign in December, and Michigan faces a challenging task to secure his commitment.
While he hasn’t yet visited Ann Arbor, Haywood is “trying to get up there for a visit,” possibly mid-week, since he couldn’t attend last weekend’s game against Northwestern. The 6-foot-5, 285-pound offensive lineman from Denton, Texas, who has been committed to Alabama since July, has caught the attention of Michigan, with On3’s EJ Holland reporting that the Wolverines are making a strong NIL push.
Although Haywood is committed to the Crimson Tide, his recent comments suggest that Michigan remains in the picture. “I have always had an interest in Michigan, so it’s not like it came out of nowhere,” Haywood told On3’s Chad Simmons. “I would say yeah, they just backed out when I committed before coming back in… I would say it is a more mindful thought for me. It is just about the opportunity for me.”
With the early signing period quickly approaching and no visit to Michigan yet scheduled, Moore’s staff faces a tough challenge in flipping the Alabama commit. However, Haywood’s genuine interest in Michigan and willingness to consider a visit suggest that his recruitment is far from over. After successfully flipping Underwood, could Michigan manage another surprise? The next two weeks will be crucial in determining whether Haywood’s future lies in Ann Arbor or Tuscaloosa.
