Commanders to Make Lucrative Deal With Veteran WR at the bye week

The Washington Commanders are in a strong position, well ahead of expectations in Year 1 of their significant rebuild under general manager Adam Peters. A successful offseason in 2025 could propel them into serious postseason contention.

Peters has emphasized maintaining a sense of urgency, ensuring that few players from the previous regime had their contracts extended. Most of the free-agent signings received one- or two-year deals, rather than long-term commitments. This strategy has worked, as seen in the team’s performance so far.

Hiring Peters was a smart move for the Commanders. He will know what steps are necessary to take the team to the next level in 2025. While some current players may not be part of the future, others can be optimistic about their chances of staying longer.

With that in mind, here are five Commanders players who are well on track to earn new contracts by the bye week, starting with Pro Bowl wide receiver Terry McLaurin.

Commanders Players on Track for New Contracts at the Bye Week

Terry McLaurin – Commanders WR
Terry McLaurin has had an impressive career, consistently performing despite the revolving door of quarterbacks with the Washington Commanders. With the arrival of Jayden Daniels, a legitimate long-term solution at quarterback, McLaurin has taken his game to the next level.

McLaurin initially had a slow start as Kliff Kingsbury gradually integrated Daniels into his rookie season. However, once the offensive coordinator loosened the reins, McLaurin’s production soared.

As Washington’s most reliable wide receiver, McLaurin is a constant threat to score whenever he gets the ball. He’s one of the few wideouts in the league who can make an impact at all three levels of the field.

So far this season, McLaurin has caught 68.9% of his targets for 896 yards and a career-high nine touchdowns. With one more year left on his contract in 2025, the Commanders should act quickly to secure him for the remainder of his prime years.
