ECU Football Officially Part Ways With Top Starter

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN)—East Carolina wide receiver Chase Sowell announced on Monday morning via X that he will be leaving the Pirates and entering the transfer portal.

“To Pirate Nation, thank you for all the support and for making me feel welcomed. This place and all of you will always have a special place in my heart,” Sowell shared in his farewell message.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The redshirt sophomore recorded 34 receptions, 678 receiving yards, and three touchdowns this season, despite missing three games due to injury.

The previous year, after coming off a redshirt season at Colorado, he had 47 catches, 622 yards, and one touchdown during a full 12-game season.

Sowell still has two years of eligibility remaining at his next destination, joining Winston Wright Jr. as a departing member of the receiving corps.

East Carolina extended an offer to Sowell’s younger brother, Hunter, in November, though Hunter has yet to make a commitment.
