The Boston Red Sox are reportedly aggressively pursuing pitching this offseason, with a focus on acquiring a left-handed starting pitcher. They previously expressed interest in Yusei Kikuchi and Blake Snell, but both players have since signed with other teams.
Despite this, the Red Sox remain determined to strengthen their rotation. According to FanSided’s Robert Murray, Boston made a strong push to acquire Cleveland Guardians ace Shane Bieber before he re-signed with Cleveland on a two-year deal.
Sources close to the situation reveal that the Red Sox were “aggressive” in their pursuit and made a “serious push” for Bieber, who ultimately turned down more lucrative offers from other teams to stay with the Guardians. Bieber’s deal with Cleveland includes a $10 million salary for 2025, with a $16 million player option for 2026, which has a $4 million buyout. With Bieber off the market, the Red Sox are now looking to other pitchers to improve their rotation.
The leading options for Boston are free agent Max Fried and trade target Garrett Crochet, both left-handed aces who would be a great fit for the rotation. If they miss out on these two southpaws, the Red Sox may turn their focus to right-handed pitchers like Jack Flaherty, Corbin Burnes, or Nathan Eovaldi.
