Blackhawks Goaltender Hits IR with Injury Setback

CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago Blackhawks have placed their goaltender on injured reserve due to a left groin injury. The move follows his early exit in Saturday’s 4-2 loss to Winnipeg, when he was replaced by Arvid Soderblom in the first period. The 32-year-old has posted a 7-11-1 record, with a 2.83 goals-against average and .906 save percentage across 20 games this season.

The struggling Blackhawks have called up goaltender Drew Commesso and defenseman Kevin Korchinski from the AHL’s Rockford IceHogs. Commesso is expected to serve as the backup to Arvid Soderblom while Petr Mrazek is out. Veteran netminder Laurent Brossoit, who signed a two-year deal with Chicago in the offseason, remains sidelined by a right knee injury.
