Mysterious Blackhawks Move Hints at Frank Nazar’s Big Debut

The Blackhawks made several changes over the weekend, including injuries to Alec Martinez and Petr Mrazek, but brought in replacements who, though not fully ready for the NHL, will add excitement in the coming weeks. Mrazek is expected to be out for only 1-2 weeks, while Drew Commesso and Kevin Korchinski were called up to fill in.

On Sunday and Monday, the Blackhawks made a surprising move by placing forward Joey Anderson on waivers, a decision that paid off when he cleared. Many expected this would lead to Frank Nazar’s call-up, given his dominant performance in the AHL. However, there’s been no update on Nazar’s status, and he’s not expected to join the NHL soon.

Nazar has been impressive with 24 goals and 20 assists in his first pro season, and any call-up would likely reward his strong performance. However, GM Kyle Davidson indicated last week that he wanted the team to settle under interim head coach Anders Sorensen before making further moves, so bringing up Nazar immediately seemed unlikely.

The decision to waive Anderson, who has been one of the team’s most consistent forwards, is puzzling, especially as the team focuses on offense. Anderson hasn’t played since November 23, and it was surprising he wasn’t claimed off waivers. The situation suggests that a move could be coming soon, possibly involving Nazar. The Blackhawks have 30 days to send Anderson to the AHL, and a lot could happen before then, but the waiver decision likely signals a reason, with Nazar’s call-up a strong possibility.
