Dolphins Lose Key OT to Injury, Receiver Injury Sparks Controversy

Dolphins left tackle Terron Armstead does not require surgery for his ongoing knee injury, but he needs rest to recover, Coach Mike McDaniel confirmed on Monday. Armstead, who played only five snaps against the Jets before being sidelined, has missed most practices for the past month due to the injury.

His availability for Sunday’s game at Houston and beyond will depend on how he feels and whether he believes he can perform effectively. McDaniel stated that they would allow the injury to “cool down,” and communication with Armstead will remain clear.

Sunday was the first time Armstead missed significant time during a game since the injury emerged weeks ago, though he has played in every game this season except for a September Monday night game against Tennessee. McDaniel praised Armstead’s high pain tolerance but emphasized the importance of not compromising his ability to perform.

He advised Armstead not to “waste your time trying to be a superhero” if he couldn’t play at his usual level. McDaniel also praised rookie left tackle Patrick Paul for his strong performance against the Jets, where he allowed no sacks and only two pressures on 49 pass-blocking snaps.

In his 12-year career, Armstead has never played a full season, missing games in both of his previous years with the Dolphins. Regardless of Armstead’s status, the Dolphins will need to contend with a tough Houston defense that ranks second in the league with 42 sacks.

In other injury news, receiver Dee Eskridge is unlikely to play this week due to a knee injury but won’t require a stint on injured reserve. Running back Raheem Mostert, who missed the Jets game with a hip injury, expects to play in Houston.
