The proposed trade would be a blockbuster, with the Red Wings acquiring Mika Zibanejad from the New York Rangers in exchange for two NHL players, a prospect, and two draft picks.

Zibanejad is in the third year of his eight-year, $68 million contract. As one of the Rangers’ top players, he would become a star in Detroit. This season, he has played 28 games, recording 6 goals and 15 assists for 21 points. He would join the Red Wings‘ top line.

In return, Detroit would send two draft picks and three players. Compher, who is in the second year of his five-year, $25.5 million contract, is included to balance the salaries.

He could serve as New York’s third-line center and provide additional depth scoring.

Beggren, a former second-round pick, would be a bottom-six forward for the Rangers. He has played 29 games this season, registering 4 goals and 2 assists for 6 points.

Kissikinen, selected in the third round of the 2023 NHL Draft, is currently playing in Finland. This season, he has appeared in 25 games, recording 7 goals and 13 assists for 20 points.

Rangers Open for Business

The New York Rangers have had a rough season and are currently outside of the playoff picture.

In response to their struggles, the Rangers traded Jacob Trouba and have made Chris Kreider, along with several other star players, available for trade.

“The fact that these players are publicly known to be available, along with other Rangers stars, speaks volumes about the situation in New York, which might surprise some,” TSN’s Chris Johnston said on Early Trading.

“If you look at the standings, the Rangers are still in a playoff spot, but there has been growing frustration with the performance of some of their veteran players this season,” Johnston continued. “They’ve lost three games in a row, and management is now exploring other options to shake things up.”

The Rangers currently sit in fifth place in the Metropolitan Division with a record of 15-12-1.

Red Wings Trying to ‘Get Rid of The Noise’

The Detroit Red Wings had high hopes of making the playoffs this season, but they have struggled so far.

Currently outside the playoff race, coach Derek Lalonde emphasized the importance of blocking out distractions as the losses continue to accumulate.

“You get rid of the noise,” Lalonde said, according to the Detroit Free Press. “It’s the reality of our profession. Control the things we can control, and that’s our process. At times it’s pretty good; at times, we need more of it.”

The Red Wings are 11-14-4 and sit in sixth place in the Atlantic Division.
