According to John Keim of ESPN, surgeons discovered that Allen only sustained a partial tear of his pectoral muscle during Week 6, which opened the possibility for a quicker recovery than originally expected. Follow-up evaluations from doctors have not ruled out his return, and Allen is reportedly doing everything he can to get cleared for play before the end of the season.

If the Commanders make the playoffs, it would extend the window for Allen to return to the field, giving him more time to recover and potentially contribute to the team’s postseason push. The 8-5 Commanders are currently on a bye week, and after their break, they will face the New Orleans Saints.

Before his injury, Allen was a key contributor on the defense, recording 15 tackles and two sacks over the first six weeks of the season. His potential return would provide a significant boost to the Commanders’ defensive line as they continue their push for a playoff spot.
