Iowa State has added its second wide receiver from the transfer portal, securing East Carolina’s Chase Sowell, according to ESPN’s Max Olson.
Sowell, who posted 678 yards on 34 receptions as the Pirates’ second-leading wideout, chose the Cyclones over a host of schools, including Ole Miss, Florida, Arizona State, TCU, Baylor, Kansas, Houston, Oklahoma State, SMU, Illinois, Virginia Tech, and Wisconsin.
A Texas native, Sowell is moving to his third school with two years of eligibility remaining, after beginning his college career at Colorado in 2022. During his time in Boulder, he was part of Deion Sanders’ inaugural season before being affected by the subsequent roster overhaul.
Sowell will team up with former UCF receiver Xavier Townsend in Ames, as the Cyclones targeted both players early in the portal. Iowa State currently sits in the top 10 of the 247 Sports transfer portal class rankings, though the cycle is still in its early stages.
