Former Los Angeles Rams long snapper Jake McQuaide has secured a new opportunity with just a few weeks remaining in the 2024 season. On Monday, the Miami Dolphins revealed they had signed McQuaide to their practice squad and released long snapper Zach Triner.
Before joining the Dolphins, 37-year-old Jake McQuaide had stints with the Chicago Bears and Minnesota Vikings. He played in four games for the Vikings this season after being released from the Bears’ practice squad in late October.
McQuaide spent the majority of his career with the Los Angeles/St. Louis Rams (10 years), earning two Pro Bowl selections in 2016 and 2017 after joining the team as an undrafted free agent in 2011.
Following a decade with the Rams, McQuaide signed with the Dallas Cowboys in 2021, playing in 21 games over two seasons. The Cowboys waived him in September 2022 but later placed him on injured reserve in October.
The former Ohio State long snapper didn’t see any further action in 2022 but found an opportunity with the Detroit Lions in 2023, playing in four games.
McQuaide now has the chance to feature in the Dolphins’ final games of the season. Starting long snapper Blake Ferguson, activated from the non-football illness list earlier this month, has yet to play since his return. Ferguson was initially placed on the list on October 19.
The Dolphins have been rotating through various long snappers recently, signing Tucker Addington and Zach Triner, both of whom were elevated to the active roster three times— the maximum allowed.
McQuaide is expected to make his Dolphins debut in Week 16 against the San Francisco 49ers, and the Rams will be hoping his new team can defeat the 49ers on Sunday.
