Seahawks QB takes the field as a full participant in practice!
Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith was a full participant in Wednesday’s practice after leaving Sunday night’s game against the Green Bay Packers with a knee injury. Initial reports were optimistic, and follow-up tests on Monday showed no major issues. Head coach Mike Macdonald confirmed that Smith felt good and would participate in practice in a significant capacity, though his reps would be monitored.
Smith’s injury occurred midway through the third quarter while the Seahawks were driving into Packers’ territory. He was pressured by Edgerrin Cooper, causing his foot to get caught in the turf, twisting his leg. Although Smith initially got up, he soon sat back down and was attended to by the training staff. After being evaluated in the injury tent, Smith returned to the sidelines but was ruled out for the remainder of the game.
Wide receiver DK Metcalf praised Smith’s toughness, saying it “speaks to the type of person he is.” Backup quarterback Jake Howell struggled in relief, completing only 5 of 14 passes for 24 yards, an interception, and multiple sacks.
Smith’s return to full practice signals that he is likely to play against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday. Behind him, third-string quarterback Jaren Hall, who has spent most of the season on the practice squad, could be called upon if necessary. Macdonald spoke highly of Hall’s intelligence and competitiveness.
Additionally, running backs Ken Walker III (calf) and Zach Charbonnet (oblique) missed practice, with Walker participating in a walkthrough and progressing toward returning. Center Olu Oluwatimi, who was injured in Sunday’s game, also missed practice but is expected to return Thursday. Jalen Sundell filled in at center during the game.
