Oklahoma Lands Second Transfer WR Commitment of the Day!
As Oklahoma prepares to face Navy in the Armed Forces Bowl, the Sooners are also making moves in the transfer portal. On Wednesday afternoon, they added wide receiver Javonnie Gibson from Arkansas Pine-Bluff. Later that evening, Oklahoma bolstered its receiving unit again by landing Keontez Lewis from Southern Illinois.
Keontez Lewis has faced his share of obstacles on his college football journey, but now, he’s ready for a fresh start at Oklahoma. Lewis began his career at UCLA, but after only 11 games, he transferred to Wisconsin, where he played in 2022 and 2023. Over the course of 14 games with the Badgers, he recorded 21 catches for 325 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Seeking a new opportunity, Lewis made the move to Southern Illinois in 2024, where he enjoyed a breakout season. In his lone year with the Salukis, he hauled in 49 passes for 790 yards and 5 touchdowns, putting together an impressive resume that caught the attention of FBS programs, including Oklahoma.
A 3-star recruit coming out of high school, Lewis was ranked as the No. 72 wide receiver in the nation and the No. 11 player from Illinois in the 2021 class. His commitment to UCLA came after considering offers from Illinois, Auburn, Arkansas, and others.
With Oklahoma’s receiving corps decimated by injuries in 2024 and six wide receivers already entering the transfer portal, the Sooners are eager to rebuild depth at the position. Lewis is expected to play a key role in helping strengthen the team’s receiving unit as they look toward the 2025 season.
