East Carolina football is bolstering its roster with an SEC-caliber playmaker ahead of a pivotal 2025-26 season in the American Conference. After securing three winning seasons in the past four years, the Pirates are looking to continue their success by adding former Oklahoma wide receiver Jaquaize Pettaway to their offense.
Pettaway confirmed his commitment on Friday, as reported by ESPN’s Pete Thamel. In 2024, he tallied five receptions for 87 yards across 11 games with the Sooners.
“Former Oklahoma WR Jaquaize Pettaway has committed to East Carolina, he tells ESPN. A former Top 50 recruit in the ESPN rankings, Pettaway recorded 16 receptions for 157 yards at OU and has two years of eligibility left.”
During his two seasons at Oklahoma, Pettaway registered 16 catches for 157 yards with no touchdowns, and he’s expected to see significantly more opportunities at ECU, leading to an increase in his production.
East Carolina football set for bowl appearance
East Carolina is set to face NC State in the Go Bowling Military Bowl on December 28. While the Pirates’ roster has been impacted by the transfer portal, their determination to defeat an ACC rival remains strong.
Although the team has lost some key players recently and faces uncertainty about the future, head coach Blake Harrell is ready to lead. Having taken over late in the season, Harrell is focused on finishing the year on a high note.
East Carolina will be a formidable in-state opponent for NC State, whose 6-6 record is misleading, as the Wolfpack has been in several close games this season.
“We are excited to be headed to the Military Bowl and to compete in an event that benefits our nation’s current and former service members,” said NC State head coach Dave Doeren, according to Jadyn Watson-Fisher of The News & Observer. “We appreciate the Military Bowl Foundation for inviting us and are looking forward to a great game.”
