Rickey Henderson, the Hall of Famer and all-time leader in stolen bases in Major League Baseball, has passed away at 65, according to multiple reports.
Henderson, known for being one of the greatest leadoff hitters and base stealers in the history of baseball, was confirmed dead by his former teammate and fellow Hall of Famer Dave Winfield in an Instagram post.
“I can’t believe I’ve lost one of my favorite teammates and dear friend, Rickey Henderson,” Winfield wrote. “Rest in peace.”
During his 25-year career, Henderson accumulated 3,055 hits, 297 home runs, and 1,115 RBIs. He still holds MLB records for the most career runs (2,295) and stolen bases (1,406). The majority of his career was spent with the Oakland Athletics, where he played 14 seasons. Henderson was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2009.
